£100,000 to fix the Iron's training pitch, which has been quietly drowning

XMore than £100,000 is going into the training pitch at Scunthorpe United's HITEK training ground. It's been described as "run-down", which is polite football speak for "mud". The money has gone to New Show Ground CIC through the Pride in Place programme, on the recommendation of the Scunthorpe Neighbourhood Board.
It will pay for new drainage and a renovated playing surface. The club says the pitch has deteriorated over the past five years. Once it's fixed, it can be used by many more people: children, young people, grassroots teams and community groups, as well as the first team.
SRN Verdict
Council leader Rob Waltham said: "Scunthorpe United is part of the fabric of the town, but this project goes beyond the first team." So the next local star might learn their trade on a pitch that actually drains. Progress.
