Scunthorpe gets a Nando's. Town officially upgraded to "proper place"

It has happened. Scunthorpe's first Nando's opened on Wednesday 21 October at Gallagher Retail Park, off Doncaster Road. It's in the old Pizza Hut. One chain out, another chain in. Like a relay race, but with garlic bread.

It has created 40 local jobs, which is genuinely great news. It seats 106 inside and 20 outside. Outside. In Scunthorpe. In late October. Respect to anyone who tries.

Opening times: Sunday to Wednesday 11am to 10pm. Thursday to Saturday 11am to 10:30pm. That extra half hour at weekends is called luxury. Parking is free, which in 2026 feels like a typo. The 35, 2, 90 and 350 buses stop nearby. It's a few minutes from Glanford Park, so whatever the score, there's now chicken.

SRN Verdict

Not everyone's doing the peri-peri dance. Neil Stamp, owner of Mr Brunch on Doncaster Road, told the BBC he'd have liked something more unique, but it was "better than having an empty building". Which is fair. A fair point, well made.
